Bridget Kelly : Short Biography

Her obituary ran thusly: "Mrs. John Cosgrove was born in Ballendereen, Co. Galway, Ireland, April 2nd, 1853; died in Hibbing, Minn., Jan. 12th, 1911.  Age 57 years, 9 months and 10 days.  She came to America and settled in Clarence, Ia., at the age of 16 years, in which place she was united in marriage to John Costrove, Oct 23, 1873.  To this union three children were born: J.P. Cosgrove, C & N-W engineer, at Clinton, Iowa; Mayme, wife of M.J. Whalen, a steam shovel operator at the Canistee mine, Coleraine, Minn, and Eleanor, wife of E.J. Kane, master mechanic for the Oliver Mining Co. at Eveleth, Minn.; all of whom with her husband, who holds a position with the Rogers, Brown Co. as foreman, survive to mourn her loss.  She lived all her married life in Clarence until July, 1906, when she with her husband moved to Hibbing, Minn., to be near their daughters.  Deceased underwent an operation at Rochester, Minn., June 2, 1910, which proved her illness was due to gastric carcinoma, a recurrence of which caused her death.  The funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 15th, 1911, at 9:30 a.m. at the church of the Blessed Sacrament in Hibbing, Rev. Father Gamache officiating.  The Ladies Auxiliary to the Ancient Order of Hibernians of which she was a member attended in a body.  Many beautiful floral offerings were sent, among which was a beautiful floral harp, sent by this Division No. 5 which showed the high esteem in which she was held.  She was conscious to the last and knew her end was near and twice bravely bid farewell and kissed each loving relative at her bedside, which consisted of husband and children, daughter-in-law and sons-in-law, and grand-children; and peacefully closed her eyes fully prepared and entirely reconciled to await the glorious resurrection and reward of Him who doeth all things well.  She was a kind and loving wife and mother and a good neighbor.  Her thoughts were always for others.  In her suffering she never complained.  She could always think of others that were so much worse than she.  Mother has gone from us but her blessed memory will linger always."
