Registered as Cairns, after his father, he was placed in Nazareth Lodge in January 1906 at the age of about three and a half and called Terence.
He went from there to St Columba's in Killybegs, Co Donegal at the age of 11 and was released at 16.
There is a big gap in his life story between then and the early 1930s when he met my mother in London and married her in 1939. He died in Margate, Kent in 1969.
