I have been tracing my family line back to Tipperary, Ireland. My great, great, grandmother is Catherine (Kate) Connell who married Bernard Sweeney on the 23 November 1871 at the Roman Catholic Chapel of Ballingarry. Bernard was a shopkeeper and also a postmaster possibly in Moyne. Catherine was a farmers daughter and her father was called William Connell and they both came from Ballingarry. Her children were Mary (b1873),Johanna (b1875), Anastasia (b1876), Anne (b1876) and Edward (Edmund) (b 1877).Her husband Bernard Sweeny (or O'Sweeney) was born in Thurles Rest on 3rd February 1850. His father was Michael Sweeney and I think has mother was called Mary Donoghue. His father is shown as a labourer on his marriage certificate.
The family are shown next in Kirkdale in Liverpool on both 1901 and 1911 census returns. Bernard was then working on the Liverpool docks. I would like to try to find more on the Tipperary connection and the family and the possible reasons for leaving Ireland.
