Charles Molloy leased farmland in Graigue, Mountmellick - Griffith's evaluation, 1851. The property was still in the family in 1901 and 1911 census, but later held by Scott family. Located right on the N80. Current owner does not live on site, so and oubuildings are rather run-down.
Charles and Ellen's eleven children were all born and raised in the home. My grandfather Laurence was their youngest child, born in 1865, and migrated to Australia in 1885. Charles died in 1882 - FHL film number 101592.
We have no information on Charles family -parents or siblings. From naming convention, which they appear to have followed, his father was likley James Molloy. Thought to have come from Offaly.
A number of Ancestry DNA matches fit with this, having Molloy ancestors coming from Rahan/Tullamore area. These inlude John Murrough Molloy (b 1864, Rahan), his father James (b 1815), a Francissi Molloy, also born ~1815, and others.
Would appreciate any information that could provide light on Charles' origins.
spouse: Ellen Mooney
Born about 1826, died 22 July 1902.
Siblings Mary (married Thomas Conroy and lived in Rosenallis) and Patrick connected through DNA matches with their descendants.
Marriage registered in Mountmellick, 25 Aug 1845; witnesses Edward Kelly and Catherine Bradshaw. Possibly in St Brigid's Chapel, Capard as that was where two daughters married.
