Clive Staple Lewis was born in Belfast on the 29th of November 1898. His initials stand for Clive Staples but he declared as a toddler that he wanted to be called Jack so this is what he was called by family and friends.
Lewis’s mother died when he was ten. He got his education from boarding schools and a tutor and later graduated from Oxford University. In 1925 he was appointed as a lecturer of English literature at Magdalen College, which is part of Oxford.
Lewis married American English teacher Joy Gresham in 1956 and she sadly died of cancer in 1960.

He has been hailed the “Father of Modern Fantasy” for his writings and actually wrote on a various range of topics from poems to science fiction novels. He wrote a book about this called “A Grief Observed” under a pen name. He is most famous for being the author of the series “The Chronicles of Narnia”, which has been made into three of the highest-grossing films of all time. His other books "Mere Christianity", "The Screwtape Letters" and "The Four Loves" are amongst his all-time best sellers.
C.S. Lewis died of renal failure in 1963 and is buried in Oxford.

Many CS Lewis novels have been adapted for the Big Screen. Movies include 'The lion. the witch and the wardrobe', 'Prince Caspian', 'The voyage of the dawn treader', 'Shadowlands' and 'The silver Chair'.
