My great grandfather Daniel Dwyer migrated to Ipswich, Queensland, Australia on Shackamaxon, arriving in November, 1859. He told us very little of his Irish origins. The ship's record says parents were Daniel and Hannah from Tipperary. His death certificate in 1909 state his parents were Daniel Dwyer and Catherine Stephens, farmers from Cashel. There is a family story that he was orphaned and wandering on a street and a lady took him in. He Australian marriage certificate states he was born in Ireland !!! Griffiths Valuation have only five blocks of land rented by a Daniel Dwyer, all in Townlands around Dundrum and Annacarty. Unfortunately the name Daniel, son of Daniel, born before Tipperary Baptism records, would probably have been lost to the remaining Irish family. It remains in the Australian family. Our Daniel Dwyer, born 1980, is fourth generation Australian born. Kind Regards, John Dwyer.
