My Great Great Grandfather, Daniel William Dunne was born in Meelaghans (I think) in 1824. He was the son of Murty (or Matha or Martin) Dunne 1805-1891 of Ballinvalley or Meelaghans.Daniel married Mary Ellen Murphy on 14 June 1846 at the RC Kelleigh Church. My Great Grandmother, Mary Ellen Dunne was their fifth child, being born in 1853 at that same location. Mary Ellen was christened on 10 Jul 1853 at Ballinagar, Killeigh Parish. Other children, born before Mary Ellen were Murty 1847, Mary Ann 1849-1849, Arthur 1849, Ann Eliza 1851. In 1854 the family left County Offaly and sailed per "Clara" ex Plymouth England, arriving in Portland, Victoria, Australia on the 19th of November 1854. This was the period of time where there were gold strikes in Victoria and the resulting "goldrush" that followed. Daniel Dunne's mothers name is not known.
Daniel Dunne's wife was Mary Ellen Murphy who was born around 1827 in Ballintogher, Geashill parish. Her parents were Arthur Murphy 1800-, and Mary Lee 1800-. Is there anyone who can give me more information on this family in Ireland?
