Place of migration
Migrated to New York/Born in Ireland
My maternal grandfather was one of 12 children, born to my great-grandparents
Edward Martin Sr. and Ann Kenny on the old Martin farm in Ballymaglavy, Emper,
county Westmeath. He emigrated to NYC. USA. in 1901 at age 18. He married
my grandmother, Margaret Mulvany, in Brooklyn in 1912, and they had three children
including my mam, Margaret Mary before she died from the 'Spanish Influenza'
in 1918. He worked as a laborer in a marble quarry, then as a train conductor and
later as a "Speak Easy" bar proprietor.
He died from stomach cancer in 1938 at age 55.
