Ellen O'Brien married Joseph O'Reilly an RIC Constable from Frenchpark co Roscommon. Joseph's first posting was to Fedamore co Limerick.We know that Ellen came from a wealthy family that opposed the marriage and that the couple married in spite of this in 1890 at the RC Chapel of Cahir. Ellen's father John O'Brien is listed on the certificate and Ellen's residence st the time of her marriage is listed as Kilbenny.
My father in law tells of how Ellen was brought up by an aunt -maybe her mother died when she was young. We also know that she came from a wealthy family, and that two of her uncles travelled up to Frenchpark in a fine carriage to make peace with the couple and to give Ellen a share of the family inheritance. Sadly we haven't been able to trace her family beyond her father's name and residence in Kilbenny at time of marriage.
