I would love to connect with the person who posted this as my GG grandfather, Thomas Whitmore, was also from Inch near Gorey in County Wexford. Although of an earlier generation, both Whitmore families ended up in the same area of Lanark County in Canada.

Emma Whitmore emigrated from Gorey, County Wexford, Ireland to Canada with her parents, William Whitmore and Elizabeth Tackaberry. She later married John Albert Horton on 22 December 1885 in Elizabethtown Township, Ontario, near Smiths Falls, Ontario, Canada. She had two sisters, Mary Ann and Sarah Jane (my Grandmother). She also had three brothers Samuel, William and George.

Hello Linda: My name is Fred Carson and I am happy to work with you to see what connection there may be between your Thomas Whitmore and my family. The only Thomas Whitmore I have recorded is George Thomas who was born in Smiths Falls, Lanark County, Ontario in 1901. My great Grandfather was William Whitmore, born in 1840. He and his wife, Elizabeth Tackaberry, and their family would have emigrated to Canada in the late 1800s. The children were baptized in Ireland. They probably lived in Moneycross which is only about 14 minutes from Inch. It is possible that your GG grandfather was a brother to William, but I can't be sure at this point. Do you have any more information about Thomas such as birthdate, marriage, death where he is buried, who his wife was etc.? I am happy to work with you on this and will share whatever information I have or can collect. FYI I live near Kitchener/Waterloo, Ontario. All the best, Fred

I am also in Kitchener! My Thomas may be a couple of generations older than your William as he was born in 1798, to Samuel Whitmore and Ann Smith. I have no other information about his family there, but would love to know more. Thomas married Elizabeth Rowsom in the Diocese of Ossary before they left for Canada in 1823. They lived in Lanark County for about 25 years, first in Drummond Township, then Montague, raising nine children, eight sons and one daughter. (Coincidentally, their eldest, William, born 1824, was a blacksmith in Merrickville.) I also have evidence that he received a grant of 50 acres in Darling Township when they arrived in 1823, but haven't learned if he stayed there or received the patent for that land. I have been through the land transactions for Lanark County 1820-1847 done by the OGS Kingston branch, and found a record of him buying and selling land in Drummond, but not Montague. In any case, they moved to Grey County in 1849. Only son William and daughter Elizabeth stayed in Lanark County. Great to hear from you!

Hi Linda: I actually live just north of you in St. Jacobs. I haven't been able to find your Thomas in any of my collections. However, I am wondering whether you might have listed any of his descendants. They might help with our pursuit. If you do have information for others, please send it along. I have come across the burial place of Thomas and Elizabeth. They are both buried in Holy Trinity Anglican Cemetery in Glenelg Township, Grey County. There is a grave marker for Thomas but I haven't found one yet for Elizabeth. That doesn't mean to say that isn't there. It just means that, if there is one, the photographer didn't take a picture. It would also appear that six of their children are also buried in the same cemetery.
