According to his Australian death certificate, Francis Fleming Warham was born in County Cork about 1798, his parents were Daniel Warham and Mary Ann Fleming, and he married Margaret Kelly in County Limerick when he was 21 and she was 17. According to Margaret's Australian death certificate, she was born in Limerick. Their known children were Samuel Kelly Warham, born in Dromcolliher, Limerick, about 1817, Bridget Elizabeth Warham, born in Charleville, Cork, between 1823 and 1828, Denis Warham, born in Charleville on 17 March 1828, James Warham, baptised in the Catholic church in Charleville on 29 March 1829, Ellen Warham, baptised in the Catholic church in Charleville on 28 February 1832, and Helena, born in Charleville about 1833. (Ellen and Helena might be the same person.)
Bridget Elizabeth was the first to migrate to Australia. Sailing as a Bounty immigrant on a ship called Conrad, she arrived in Sydney on 31 January 1841. According to the immigration record, she could neither read nor write and was 18, which gives her a calculated year of birth of 1823. However, according to her Australian death certificate, she was 54 when she died in Warwick, Queensland, on 26 August 1882, which gives her a calculated year of birth of 1827/8.
Helena Warham migrated to Australia on the Lady Kennaway, arriving on 8 December 1854.
Francis Fleming Warham, his wife, Margaret, and two sons, Samuel Kelly Warham and James Warham, sailed to Australia on the ship Cambodia, arriving on 6 August 1855. Although Francis described himself as a labourer from County Cork and aged 52, a member of the immigration board noted, ‘Describes himself as labourer; he has evidently been unaccustomed to work – appears much older than represented & as if he had been a respectable tradesman’. Margaret described herself as 47 and born in Limerick, and both claimed to be able to read and write.
Denis Warham was a painter, and he moved to London and married a Protestant, Emma Barton, in St Marylebone, Middlesex in 1853. Their first three children were born in England and migrated to Australia with their parents on the ship British Empire, arriving on 4 February 1859.
Neither Samuel nor James ever married. When James died in Spetember 1906, relatives put a notice in the newspaper in which they described him as the youngest son of the late Captain Francis Warham of the 28th North Gloucestershire Regiment. This is the only known reference to Francis having been in the army.
Both Bridget and Helena married. Bridget had two daughters with her first husband and eight with her second. Helena had three children, two of whom died in infancy. Denis and his wife had nine children, only four of whom lived to adulthood.
