George William Kevin (Keevans/Keivens) was the son of Edward Keevans a Tipperary, Ireland native and Sarah Bradley. He was very proud of his Irish roots. He grew up in Norristown, PA where he worked various jobs until joining the Union Army in the Civil War where two of his Kevin/Keevan relatives were killed. They all were enlisted in the 51st regiment of PA infantry Co C. They fought in The Battle of Burnside and Antietam. His cousin Patrick Kevin/Keevans was killed during the battle of the wilderness and other cousin Joshua Kevin/Keevans was taken prisoner at the battle of Spotsylvania Courthouse and sent to Andersonville Prison where it was presumed he died. George was wounded at this battle as well. George survived the war but couldnt read or write (hence the change in spelling of his name) He moved to Ohio and married Harriet Estelle Huntley and had many children with her. He also bred a lot of horses for racing and owned a farm which many of his children and grandchildren lived and helped him with. He lived a very long life and passed in 1933.
