Hanora Place was born in County Cork, Ireland the daughter of Henry Place and Hanora Scanlon. Hanora came to this the United States in 1850, and was employed as a servant on various farms in the Town of Manheim NY. She married Michael Butler on November 21, 1860 at St. Mary’s Church in Little Falls, NY. The ceremony was performed by Father McLaughlin, with Nicholas Butler (son of Lawrence Butler and Anastatia Grace) and Michael’s sister Julia Butler as witnesses. She died of stomach cancer in Newport, NY on May 22, 1905.
