James' father was Thomas Power (born about 1780). Neither James' father Thomas nor James' son Thomas was on the ship to America with the rest of the family. James' father Thomas and possible brothers Richard and Patrick were tenants of Sir Nicholas Fitzsimon of Broughal Castle, townland Castlewood, in the Tithe Applotment Book.
Broughal and Clonbonniff are both in County Offaly, formerly King's County.
