Jeremiah Darby Grehan was born in Castletown, Co. Westmeath in about 1836.
He married Bridget Susannah Brumbaugh Dunne in Kilclonfert Co. Offaly on the 15th of January 1865.
On the 21st of February that same year, the couple boarded a ship called The Sunda in Queenstown (now Cobh) and sailed for Australia. This ship was part of the Queensland Immigration Scheme which had been established by the Bishop James Quinn, a Kildare man who had been appointed as the first Bishop of the diocese of Brisbane.
They followed Bridget's brother Henry Dunne, who was married to Jeremiah's sister Anne. They settled in Veresdale next to their family , with Jeremiah's other sister Catherine also coming to the area.
