My Great great Grandfather was John Bennett, whose Father's name was James. He was convicted in March 1850 of stealing a sheep in Monmouthshire, Wales, and sentenced to 7 yrs transportation.
In the 1851 Census he is listed as a prisoner in Portsmouth, England, and writes his birthplace as Skull, Cork, Ireland. He eventually was transported in 1854 to Fremantle, Western Australia.
The only record I have of him in Western Australia is his marriage record to my Great great Grandmother in 1875, where he states his father's name and his father's occupation - farmer. This is about all I know of his origins.
