Hello, I've been doing some research into my family history and I am very surprised to find this. My grandfather's name was Joseph Downey. His parents were Nicholas and Cathrine Downey from Ireland. I kind of hit a road block and couldn't get any further back.
Looking to connect with descendants of the Downey family of Rathkyle (Townland), Kilmacar Parish. My great great grand father was John Downey who was born in Rathkyle in 1839. He was the son of James Downey. John migrated ot the USA in about 1850 to NYC. He left NYC to work as a miner in the Barytes mine in Cheshire, Ct for 20 years until he saved enough money to buy a farm. He was the brother of Michael Downey (who migrated across the valley to C'Noc Aun (Little Hills)) and Nicholas Downey and Catherine Downey (never married).
