John was born in Douglas, Killorglin, 1882 to Maurice Heffernan and Bridget Diggins. John left Ireland and emigrated to South Africa around 1920. In South Africa he met his bride to be, Mary Ellen Foley (married name Smith) who was a widow and had emigrated too with her daughter and brother. Together they had 1 child, my grandfather, John Hefferman. John Heffernan passed away in Pretoria, South Africa in 1960.
