John Hunter married Mary Huston and emigrated to America inn 1811. Also in 1811, their first child, Samuel Huston Hunter, was born, in Philadelphia. They moved from Philadelphia, living for a while in Mifflin County, PA, and making their way West, ended up living in East Deer, PA. A granddaughter wrote an informal history of John and Mary and this unpublished family history was used as a starting point to build documentation of their lives.
If Irish naming patterns hold out, John's father would have been Samuel Hunter. His mother later came to America with younger sisters of John, Violet and Margaret, and a nephew, George Anderson. In the passenger list for these persons, it was revealed that his mother's name was Elizabeth. The family history states that his mother's maiden name was Huston, same as the maiden name of John's wife, Mary.
