John Maher Bowen was my great grandfather. He was the son of William and Ann (Nancy) Maher Bowen. He emigrated to the United States around 1855 with his parents and siblings. I believe his family came from Moneygall. I have no other information about his family in Ireland.
He lived with his parents in Oneida New York until he was about 18. He moved to Atchison Kansas with friends from Oneida who had already settled there. He went from Atchison to Idaho during the gold rush for a few years. He settled back in Atchison and persuaded a young woman he had known in Oneida NY, Mary Ann Hennessey, to come to Kansas and marry him.
My son and family now live in John's and Mary Anne's home in Atchison.
I would appreciate any information about John, his parents/ family, in Ireland. Or his wife, Mary Ann Hennessey, whose parents Jeremiah and Mary Hennessey, had emigrated from Limerick to the US prior to 1841.
