John Meara came to the US from Tipperary about 1850. He worked as a gardener at an estate in Poughkeepsie NY. He met his wife Mary McSherry there where she worked as a maid and they married in 1853 Feb 23rd at St Peter's Catholic Church in Poughkeepsie NY. They had 7 children.

Is it known if John had any siblings?

I am researching a Johanna Meara (as listed on her death certificate) who migrated to the U.S. in approx the late 1840's-early 1850's. She setteld on Long Island, NY where she married Thomas White between 1852-1857. Together they had 6 children. Other variations of her last name spelling include (Mara, O'Mara, O'Meara and Maher) all obtained from death records of her children.
