John Mulligan immigrated to the United States from Ireland and made his home in New York City. He worked as a carman and his wife, Mary O'Rourke Mulligan worked as a maid. They had 15 children. At the time of the1870 census, Mary, age 10 and Thomas, age 10 were both in school. John Milligan died in 1884 in New York.
