My 4G grandfather, Luke MORAN, was born ca. 1751 "along the beautiful river Shannon". He was educated as his parents wanted him to study for the priesthood. He preferred a seafaring life and went out to sea. After his father died, he left Ireland (around 1774) and went to Virginia. I think he must have been indentured. After a number of years he moved to New York State where he married Mary McTAGGART. They had a couple of children in New York, then migrated to Prince Edward County, Ontario. They farmed and lived out their lives there. It was suggested that he was likely from Limerick as there would have been a school for boys studying for the church there.
