Margaret's son Thomas William was born 1844 in Goulburn NSW. Margaret married his father John Cavill in Goulburn's RC Church in 1845. She pre deceased her husband who died when Thomas was just 16.
Margaret gave Thomas everything she had.He was a big, tall, red headed Irishman. He became a man who could hug his four daughters in his arms without his fingers meeting. He could break up a fight, having decided to no longer participate in them after somebody got hurt. Thomas married my GG grandmother 1872 in Gympie Queensland. Together they raised a family of 5 children. He baptised my G grandmother a Cavanagh. It has been quite a puzzle to understand why.
Thomas like Margaret before him, gave everything. Annie received an education and after her father's death 1910 in Toowoomba she relocated to Sydney where she would later marry my G grandfather.
In 1915 my grandfather was born. A more gentle giant you would never meet. His ginger hair and moustache distinguished him. He served during WW2 in a little known but highly successful campaign in Syria against the Vichy French. An Engineer, he was to be promoted to Sargent for redeployment on his return to Queensland. Fortunately for us he sustained a leg injury during training and because his blood would not clot he was discharged from the army.
A year later my mother was born in Sydney. My children are both currently completing university.
It is my intention one day to travel to Clonmore Carlow with my son Ryan.
Ryan is 8 generations from Margarets parents John & Ann Byrne nee Brohan RC of 1830 Clonmore Carlow Ireland.
