Mary was the daughter of Richard Merrick and Catherine Cahill of Ballynulty, Cullen, Tipperary.
After her husband Lawrence O'Brien died, she and her 8 (mostly grow up) children emigrated to Australia in the early 1850s.
After spending some time in New South Wales the family moved to Victoria
Mary died at Bylands near Kilmore in 1870 at the age of 67
