Matthew Dowling born 1859 in Mullamast joins the RIC in 1880 but leaves in 1883 after marrying. Around this time September 1883 he marries a protestant lady (Mary) which was not well received by the family.
In 1884 Matthew and Mary emigrate to Australia on the ship Bowden.
