Micheal Devitt married Catherine Duggan in 1871 and they had 10 children before Catherine died in 1896 at age 43. Micheal was a cattle dealer and was known as “The Chairman” after he presided over The Cashel Urban Council for 18 or 19 consecutive years. Their children’s names were John, Patrick,Thomas, Micheal, Daniel, Mary, Kathleen, Alice, Hannah and Haddie. Catherine Duggan had several siblings among which William Duggan emigrated to New York around 1880 and married Anastasia Gallagher in 1883 who supposedly was born in Kilkenny.
