Born in Ballysax, Suncroft, Co. Kildare in 1874. Worked as a Groom in Ireland before relocating to Cheshire in England. Worked as a jockey & also a trainer. Died in Chester in 1925 from emphysima. His family, including his son John Gerard - my father- emigrated to NSW Australia about 1936. John Gerard settled in Canberra ACT in approx. 1948, after serving in the RAAF in WW2. I have now moved to the Australian alps to a place called Dry Plain, NSW. My nearest neighbour is approx. 10 klms away over several paddocks. Would love to be able to trace my Irish side beyond Jeremiah, my great grandfather, who was born in Doonany, Moonasterevin in 1833. I can't locate his death date. Jeremiah was married to Esther/ Easter Pew who died in 1913. His father was John Ball (1797?) & his mother Eliza / Betty Nolan (1808?).
