Patrick Darcy was born in abt. 1827 in County Tipperary. He left Ireland sometime before 1856. He married his first wife, Margaret Callinan, in Bendigo, Victoria, Australia on 16 July 1856. At the time he was working as a gold miner at Bendigo. Margaret died in 1863. They had 5 children together. Patrick remarried on 4 July 1864, in Bendigo, to Johanna Bourke. Patirck and Johanna had 4 children together.
Both of Patrick's marriage registration entries name his father as James Darcy, Farmer. His Mother is listed as Mary Landrigan (first record) or Lonergan (second record).
Patrick and Johanna and children moved to New Zealand, probably about 1866 [Patrick's Death Registration Entry says, at the time of his death in July 1895, he had been in NZ for 29 years (suggesting he and family arrived in 1866). His son William's Death Registration says he had been in NZ for 30 years at his death in 1898 (suggesting the family moved here in 1868).
Patrick worked as a gold miner at Red Jacks Creek in the Grey District of the West Coast of New Zealand.
According to his death registration, Patrick died on 12 July 1895 at Red Jacks at the age of 68, although his gravestone says 11 July 1895.
Patrick is buried at Ngahere Cemetery, Nelson Creek. Nelson Creek is between Red Jacks and Ahaura. Ahaura is likely where his family was based. His stone reads: IN LOVING REMEMBRANCE OF PATRICK DARCY WHO DIED JULY 11TH 1895 NATIVE OF TIPPERARY IRELAND AGED 68 YEARS
