Patrick Dolan and Julia O'Brien were married in Ireland before coming to the U.S.
The Patrick Dolan family entered the U.S. through the Port of New Orleans, Louisiana. The family apparently stayed in New Orleans for several years (1847 - 1860). Census taken in both Lousiana and in Iowa in 1860 show Patrick and his family living in both places.
In those days transportation was slow. The trip to Iowa may have been made by steamboat up the Mississippi river and consumed 16 days. The family located on a farm near Cascade.
John Dolan was born in New Orleans in 1848, although the Radius ship passenger list suggests he was an infant when the family arrived there in May 1847.
Edward P. Dolan was born in New Orleans in 1851 and the family lived in New Orleans while he was a boy.
The family lived in Richland Township, Jones County, Iowa. John farmed in the Prairieburg area and Edward lived in Cascade.
