Patrick Jordan was born 17 Mar 1853 in Coolskeagh, Co. Monaghan and baptized that year in the parish of Donaghmoyne. He was one eight children of John Jordan and Anne (Nancy) Moan. Patrick sailed from Ireland to New York in 1874 where he lived for a short time in Troy, NY before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1877 and served until 1883. He married Catherine Pitchford in 1884 in New Jersey, raised 3 children and worked as a ferry boat captain on the Hudson River until his death in 1914.
Three of his siblings; Elizabeth (m.n. McKay), John and William immigrated to Glasgow, Scotland. One brother, Walter followed Patrick to the States but returned to Ireland where he died in 1919. Two siblings, Francis and Mary are unaccounted for but appear to have been still living as long as 1916 according to the Irish Extract from the Census Return of 1851. The youngest brother, James (1865 -1944) remained in Ireland.
