Saint Paul Dispatch - October 10, 1912 PIONEER RESIDENT DEAD Patrick J. O’Connell Succumbs After a Long Illness Patrick J. O’Connell, 924 Marshall Avenue, died early today after a protracted illness. Mr. O’Connell was a pioneer of St. Paul, having come here with his parents when he was seven years old. He was born in Ireland January 20, 1856. In 1872 he entered the foundry business with the firm of Parker, Bailey & Houston, formerly known as the St. Paul Ironworks, and now the present St. Paul Foundry company. Mr. O’Connell became connected with the American Hoist and Derrick company when that firm was organized in 1885 as the America Manufacturing company. He achieved considerable success at the time the firm made the big motor carriages for the government and was rated as one of the best foundrymen in the country. Mr. O’Connell is survived by a wife and seven children, four sons and three daughters. They are: Steven K., Jerry P., Charles J., Harry T., Mrs. Mary O’Hearn, Amelia M. and Genevieve B. His father, two brothers and six sisters also survive.
