Patrick O Shaughnessy 1868

Back to List

Unknown why Patrick started using the O in Shaughnessy, but from this point on the name in the family has been O Shaughnessy.

Since Patrick was the only member of James Shaughnessy's family to marry and have childern.

Again unknown if it had anything to do with the Clongorey Evictions, it is known that a Patrick Shaughnessy was given a loan to buy land back, but we don't know if he did or didn't.  Not known if the James Shaughnessy who was evicted in 1883 was Patrick's father, and that was why he was given the loan to buy the land.  Both Patrick's grandfather James and Father James were deceased by the 1901 census, his mother Alice was still living in the year of census, and they are living in Dublin.

Patrick married Mary Shea on 29/06/1904 at the Roman Catholic Chapel of Golden Bridge.

Witnesses at the wedding were;  Patrick Dooley and Margaret Flood.

Patrick was a Railway Guard, and Mary was a Servant.

Mary came from Cooraclevin, Kings Co.  Her father was William Shea and he was a farmer, her mother was Eliza Maher.
