Peter Francis Daly was born in Annaghmore, Kings County (now Co Offaly) in 1838 and was baptised in Eglish Church on 22/4/1838. Family lore has it that he emigrated to USA on his own at the age of 10. His parents and siblings followed later. His father was a tenant farmer at Annaghmore. He was married twice, first to Mary Conley, who died aged 44 and he then married a widow, Sarah Fogarty (nee Dooley, who was also a native of Eglish.
