Philip Michael DWYER was born ca. 1800 in Tipperary, Tipperary, Ireland. I believe he was the son of Mary and John.
He married Mary F O'Dwyer on February 2, 1831, in Clonoulty, Tipperary, Ireland. They traveled with their seven children, Patrick, Michael, Honora, Timothy Tyler, Mary Jane, Andrew, John F to the US. The entered the port of New Oleans, but traveled immediately to St. Louis, Mo to join others from Ireland at an Irish Settlement there. They may have had another child once in the US. A daughter, named Ellen.
Philip died on March 26, 1880, having lived a long life of 80 years, and was buried in St Louis, Missouri.
The Dwyers’ came to America in 1848 from County Tipperary, Ireland, at the height the Great Famine, which lasted from 1845 and 1852. On 28 Dec 1848 Philip and Mary Dwyer arrived in New Orleans aboard the Sir Henry Pottinger, which had sailed out of Bristol, England. With them, were their children homas, Patrick, Michael, Timothy, Honora, Mary, Andrew and John. From New Orleans that took a steamboat to St Louis and in 1853 Philip purchased 160 acres in Millwood, Missouri, at what is now Eversmeyer Road and Hwy H. Phillip farmed there from 1854 to 1863, then sold the farm to George Dyer. They moved to St. Louis on Dixon (or Dickson) Street. Thomas, Michael and Patrick settled in Stonington, Illinois, and farmed there. For a time, Andrew also lived in Stonington, where he married Elizabeth Flynn. Michael probably got tired of life on the farm and moved to Chicago, where he met Louie Laird.
