Richard Moon Jenkins was a brother to my great grandmother Ellen Jane Jenkins (m. Denis O'Sullivan). Richard was born in Bowness On Solway, Cumberland, England on APRIL 1865. He was baptized on April 9, 1865. His father Daniel Jenkins (1826-1914) was a Coast Guard Officer. The family moved often. His mother Jane Moon (1828), gave birth to 10 chldren, died in 1871 when Richard was 6. when the family were living in New Haven, Sussex, England. Shortly afterwards the family moved to Valentia Island, Co. Kerry, Ireland. At age 22, Richard married Annie Mulcahy (1863 - 1932 - birthplace, Tralee, Co. Kerry) on June 14th 1887. The marriage was registered in Tralee, probably St. John's Parish Church.
4 March 1889 - Violet Mary was born in Scariff, Co. Kerry. She died the same year before reaching the age of 1. 19 October 1890 Daniel Joseph was born in Dromond, Co. Kerry and lived just a short time (1890-1891) . 1894 Helen Mary (Aileen) was born in Dromond.
In the 1901 Irish Census another child, Richard Roy O'Connor was born 3Q 1897 and family's residence was in Loughcurran, Co. Kerry. Richard was a telgraphist and an aunt, Mary O'Connor, (aged 74) was living with the family.
I have not been able to find any record of the family moving to New Zealand, but Richard was registered in the electoral roll in New Zealand from at least as early as 1903.
Desmond Frederick was born in New Zealand in 1904 and lived to 1993.
1905/1906 Electoral Roll, Northland, Bay of Islands, Richard was registered as telegraphist and address as Doubtless Bay. Also listed was Frederick Arthur Jenkins, Kawakawa, farm hand. Don't know if they were related.
1909 8 May, Departure, Queenstown, Ireland, traveling on ship Baltic to New York, with wife, Annie - no children. 16th May arrival in New York for Oakland, California to visit sister - not sure whose sister they visited. They cited father, Daniel Jenkins' home, Polruan, Cornwall, as "residence of family of whence alien came".

Desmond Frederick Jenkins (1904-1993) married Freida Elma Neumann (1906-2002) and had one son, born 1944 who was still alivel (2014)
Richard Roy O'Connor Jenkins (1897-1962) married Audrey Lavinia Rosemergy (1899-1975). They had 3 children, Bruce Richard (1928-1939), and another son and daughter. Richard died in Wanganui, New Zealand July 5th, 1962
