Robert McKittrick

Robert McKittrick 1789

Back to List

Robert assumed born 1789 as his death certificate shows age 80 on death at Altmore, Pomeroy, Dungannon Middle, Tyrone in 1869. His father’s name was given as Alexander (see later).

Robert’s first wife’s name is unknown (for the record, an oft cited Martha Blakeney is not accepted as his first wife, as she was born and bred in America).

All Robert’s children to this unknown wife appear to have been born at Clonavaddy but the family must have moved to Cornamadddy as at least one of the offspring (Elizabeth) was married from Cornamaddy. After Cornamaddy, Robert moved to Altmore, Robert signing a lease on 20 March 1856 over Altmore Griffith Ppty #5 (A14R0P5).

By the time of the Griffith Survey, Robert’s son John was Occupier of Ppty #5, and Robert appears as co-tenant with a Thomas Irwin of Griffith property #11 (37A 1R30P) just up the road at Altmore.

After his first wife died, Robert had re-married a young Mary Anne Irwin (on 18 Nov 1857). The Marriage Certificate is where his father’s name Alexander appears.

Mary Anne Irwin was a daughter of this Thomas Irwin (born 1807 died 28 August 1892). So it appears Robert, as well as going into business with Thomas Irwin, also married his daughter.

Robert died in Altmore in 1869 in the presence of Mary Anne McKittrick. Mary Anne re-married the following year.
