I am looking for Samuel Norris born Belfast 1818-1823, he was a seaman, he is supposed to have married Elizabeth/Eliza Penningtonbut I cannot find any trace of this. They had a child in 1859 and a further child in 1861. They then relocated to Liverpool and had several more children, my grandfather Frederick born in 1872..On one record, Samuel's Seamans ticket, it says that he lived in Sussex Street Belfast, I believe that was in Shankhill. The first two of their children were baptized at St. Annes, Shankhill record recorded parents as been my Samuel and Elizabeth Pennington. I have found them again in England on the subsequent censuses until their deaths.
Samuel was a prolific seaman/mariner until the 1870s, in 1871 they moved to Oldham in Lancashire and he became an engineer. On the 1881 census, the family was all together but in the 1891 Eliza was on her own, Samuel was not around. I have since found him in New Brunswick in a hospital/almshouse. He died there in 1894 and had been an inpatient for many years stating on his admittance that he was a widower. Eliza also said on the 1891 census that she was a widow and indeed later remarried.
Samuel and Eliza's sons Samuel and Hugh both became seamen.
I suspect that Samuel's father 1818-1823 was also a seaman named James but as yet I have not been able to verify this. Any help with my family would be greatly appreciated
Thank you
Christine Shelmerdine nee Norris
