Thank you! Terrence Murphy and Bridget Victory are my 3rd great-grandparents. This filled in some gaps.

Terence Murphy was born ca. 1799 in or near Co. Cavan, possibly in Templeport parish. He married Bridget Victory and they had at least 3 children born in Co. Cavan before leaving for Canada. The three children were Patrick, Elizabeth and Francis T., born ca. 1823, 1825 and 1826, respectively. In Canada they settled in the Montreal area, and had three more children there: Mary Ann, born 1828, James, born 1830 and Catherine, born 1833. Terence died 18 Aug 1843 at Montreal; Bridget lived until 8 Nov 1874; she died at Ste. Brigide d'Iberville, Quebec.
Of their six known children, the three sons all moved to Vermont. Patrick and Francis married McGourty sisters, Rose and Margaret, originally from Co. Leitrim. James married (1st) Bridget Townack, widow of John Ragen, and (2nd) Mary Hogan, originally from Ballinderry, Kilbarron parish, Co. Tipperary. Elizabeth married Patrick Maher and died in Montreal shortly after the birth of their third son on 21 Mar 1852. Mary Ann never married, and may have died on 15 Jul 1900 at St. Jean Baptiste parish, Quebec. Catherine became a nun and died on 27 Mar 1887 in Quebec City.
Terence may have been brother to Francis Murphy who was the godfather of James. Francis was of Co. Cavan, son of Francis Murphy and Mary Riley, and later married Ann Summers and moved to New Jersey, U.S.A. Another Co. Cavan link is the godfather of Mary Ann, John McGovern, also from that County. He may be the same John McGovern of Templeport parish who served in the 28th Foot Soldiers, 2nd Battalion, British Regimental Forces, joining in 1813 at the age of 18.

Hi there, My ggrandfather was Patrick Murphy, b 1843ish to Bartly and Bridget Murphy. Patrick married Rose Toher b 1838 daughter of Fergal/Farrell Toher and Mary Flin/Flynn. Their address was Gortacloher, Templeport, Cavan. Arrived in USA ~1865 and settled in Rhode Island. Would love to connect and see if we might be cousins.

Beth,
None of the names you mention are known to me, but that doesn't mean anything, does it? If your Murphys and my Murphys are from Templeport, we may indeed be cousins. The difficulty is proving that. My link to Templeport is merely speculative. I have circumstantial evidence that leads me to believe that is where my Terence is from, but it is pure speculation at this time.
Hi again,
Well, I have done DNA,and two of my siblings have as well. Have you? Maybe we can compare.
Best,
Beth
Beth,
Yes, I have had my DNA tested, but other than noting the general ethnicity estimate, I have not done much with it (nor do I really understand how to do so). I have my DNA on Ancestry and also at MyHeritage. I looked for your surname on Ancestry but did not find you. Same at MyHeritage.
