Thomas O'Meara was born in Tipperary, Ireland around 1797. He was possibly the son of a Patrick O'Meara.
Thomas married Elizabeth Tierney of Birr, King's (Offaly) most likely in the parish of Birr and Loughkeen in either 1822 or 1823. They had their first 2 children, William and John, there in 1823 and 1824. They most likely migrated to Ontario, Canada around 1827-28. They first appear in Canada in 1828 when they bought land. The first of 13 children born in Canada was in 1829 and the last in 1851. In 1852 the O'Meara family moved to Clinton county, Iowa, United States. They are found in the 1852, 1854, and 1856 Clinton county censuses. 

Elizabeth died Jan 1858 and is buried in Immaculate Conception cemetery in Petersville, Iowa, along wth several of her childern and their spouses. Thomas is NOT buried there and at this time there is no known location or time of his death.
