Thomas McKee was born in Derrynoose around 1836. He joined the Armagh Militia at the age of 18 (1854) and the following year joined the 46th Regiment of the Devonshires. From 1856-58 he served in Corfu, Greece. He served in the East Indies from 1858 to 1866 when he was discharged. Thomas married Margaret Baird, also from Armagh on July 31st , 1876 in the Armagh Second Presbyterian. On his marriage certificate he listed his occupation as "linen beetler." His eldest son, Thomas John McKee was born in Milford on 21/5/1877, his second son was born in Ballyards on 16/4/1879. The rest of his large family were born in Belfast. Thomas died in 1898 but his widow and family can be found in the 1901 census at 14 Barton Street, and in the 1911 census at 74 Roden Street Belfast.
