Place of migration
Migrated to/Born in USA

Thomas was born around 1826 (per death certificate) and was married to Catherine Houlihan (b.1841 Ireland- county unknown/year of birth determined from death certificate).  Do not know where they were married.  Do not know where they immigrated from/into.  They are buried in NYC and their death certificates (1894 and 1900, respectively) have provided what we do know.

They lived on the west side of Manhattan.  Probably built/attended St. Peter's RC Church on Barclay Street.

They had two daughters we know-  Nora Theresa (b. 1862 NYC) and Mary (b. 1872 NYC- DEAF).

and 2 children we think: Margaret (b.1860 NYC) and Thomas (b. 1861 NYC)

Are they connected to anyone already onboard this site?

Suggestions for exploration online?

THANK YOU!!

  • recent check in 2024 reveals children of Thomas O'Dea and Catherine Houlihan included:

    Margaret 1857, Norah 1858-1939, John 1860-1860, Thomas 1860-1871, Catherine 1865-1865, Mary (deaf) 1868-1930

Thomas worked in shipyard as a laborer on the lower west side of Manhattan. Frequent address changes per NY City Directories. Children who died were put into "untitled" graves of Calvary Cemetery in Queens, NY which means not a lot of money in the family.

Not sure where or when Thomas and Catherine immigrated to NYC. Have not yet found a NY marriage record.

Thomas' parents were James and Mary (per death record) and Catherine's parents were Honora/Nora and Michael (per death record).

Ideas for further looking?  The O'Dea castle genealogy room was closed August 2024 when we tried to visit........
