William Daly Burtchaell was born in Kilkenny, Ireland but moved to the United States about 1855 and married Maria Mackey Williams 17 Feb 1859 in what is now known as Lake City, Florida. He fought for the South in the Civil War was captured and remain a prisioner from 3 Jul 1863 until 3 March 1865. He and his family relocated to Norcross, Gwinnett County, Georgia in 1869 and later settled in Pickneyville a short distance from Norcross where he stayed until his death 20 Aug 1919 and is buried in the Norcross City Cemetery.
