My great grandfather was the son of John Crompton, born Ardstraw in Tyrone, who moved to Derry and married Letitia Mitchell in 1848. William had two other siblings, John Johnston Crompton born 14 Dec 1850 and Mary Anne Crompton, born 1859. They family moved to Manchester, England around 1870 but John is not mentioned in the 1871 census so I don't know if he died prior to this date. William married Eliza Farrell in 1884 in Manchester and they had six children.
William's birth certificate gives place of birth as Prehen House and his father's occupation as servant. Prior to that the family had lived at 33, Rossville Street, William Street and possibly Chamberlain Place.
