During my visit in 2017 the original buildings were still in use as a paint factory. A modern addition to the front was in use as a paint showroom & retail shop. parts of the original stone walls were incoroperated into the new building. My grandfather Michael Melia was born there on Oct. 13 th. 1873. he died in Kilcock, Co. kildare in 1943. . His Mom Ann Melia was baptized in St. Patricks RC .Church, Celbridge Sep. 1857. her residence was Straffan, a parish in Celbridge. Would appreciate any further history. John Melia, near Toronto Canada .
The Celbridge Poor Law Union was officially declared in 1839. The Workhouse was opened in 1841 at a cost of £5,500. It was built to house a maximum capacity of 400 inmates. The Celbridge Workhouse was built to accomodate people from the areas of Balraheen, Celbridge, Cloncurry, Donadea, Donaghcumper, Kilcock, Leixlip, Maynooth, and Straffan in Co. Kildare, Rodanstown in Co. Meath, and Clonsilla, Lucan, Newcastle, Rathcoole, and Saggard in Co. Dublin.
In 1921 the Celbridge Workhouse was occupied by Republican forces, with some of the original buildings becoming damaged or even being burned down.
The Celbridge Workhouse site is now occupied by Centric Health on the Maynooth Road, with some of the original buildings still surviving.

Wow John, that's great to have so many details. Have you added your ancestors to the XO Chronicles? If not then I can help you get started and we can link them directly to the Workhouse and add more details as we get them. Your best bet to get more info would be to post this on the Message Boards too.
I hope that I have been of some help.
Best of luck in your research
