Kilmacduagh Monastery

Kilmacduagh Monastery is located just outside the town of Gort in County Galway. 

The original monastery was founded by St Colmán in the 7th century. The site was later re-established as an Augustinian Abbey in the 13th century. 

The remaining buildings today include a number of Churches, a Round Tower, and a Cathedral. The Round Tower is particularly notable as it is leaning. 

Kilmacduagh is one of the lesser visited Monasteries in Ireland, which is a shame as it is excellently preserved and dramatically located in the Burren Lowlands. Today it is part of the Yeats Gregory Heritage Trail.
