The Black Castle is located in Wicklow Town.
The land on which the Castle is located was granted to Strongbow, who gave it to a Norman lord to build castles upon it.
The Castle was attacked a number of times by the native Irish people, but in 1645 it was completely destroyed in a fire started by the Irish.
The small fragment of the castle which remains is now a tourist attraction.
