The Plantation of Munster took place from 1586 and stretched into the 17th century. The English Crown, hoping to create defensible English settlements in Ireland, encouraged landowners to import English and Welsh tenants to settle the land. Though the exact date is unknown, at some point during the Munster Plantation, Woodhouse was rented to the Englishman James Wallis. He built a stone house and a working farm, remaining on the land until the rebellion of 1641.
