The Siege of Wexford took place in early May, 1169.
The city was placed under siege by Norman forces who had recently arrived in Ireland.
The town walls were never breached, but nevertheless the city surrendered after two days of siege. It is believed that the people were persuaded to surrender by two bishops.
Wexford town was now under the control of the Normans.
21 people died during the Siege of Wexford, 18 of whom were on the side of the Normans.
