I am trying to locate details about my great grandfather and his father (also Bartholomew) who I believe came from County Kerry.

I searched the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie and the only record I could find was an August 26 1859 baptismal record for a Bartholomew Walsh with father Bartholomew Walsh and mother Ellen Reardon sponsors Daniel Reardon and Julia Reardon The record was in the Caherciveen RC parish. Records for that parish start in 1845 for baptisms and 1863 for marriages.
If this record is for your ancestor then there would be no baptismal record for his father or a marriage record for his parents.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Forgot to mention that the baptismal record showed Sheamaugh as a location. I'm not able to find that name likely it is a local place name. However, the 1852 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Caher civil parish shows a Bartholomew Walsh in Mountluke townland. Possibly this is your circa 1830 ancestor.

Thank you. That is very interesting. I think they were RC as the Bartholomew that ended up in Swansea and then went on to Ferndale, was married in the RC church I think, but they were wesleyan methodists by the time they got to Ferndale!
I will see if I can follow this lead!
